Our primary goal is to provide safe and effective therapy. We employ the following methods:
- Acupuncture
- One of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world, acupuncture originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. Acupuncture is one of the key components of the system of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In the TCM system of medicine, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang. The main assumption in TCM is that health is achieved by maintaining the body in a “balanced state” and that disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to the blockage in the flow of qi (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. It is believed that there are 12 main meridians and more than 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body that connect with them. Acupuncture involves the stimulation of these anatomical points on the body by fine metallic needles. The procedure is relatively painless.
Scientific research has proposed that acupuncture produces its effects through regulating the nervous system, thus enhancing the activity of pain-killing biochemicals such as endorphins and immune cells at specific sites in the body.
- Biotherapeutic Drainage
- The body is constantly filtering out toxins from the water supply, air, food and environment. The human body has a limited capacity to breakdown and excrete these and other unnatural chemicals. Biotherapeutic drainage is a treatment method aimed at supporting the body’s natural routes of elimination and enhancing the cellular function of the organs and tissues within the body.
- Bowen Therapy
- The Bowen Technique is a “head to toe” physical treatment that promotes self-healing and benefits all ages and stages in life. Bowen treatments signal the body to eliminate inflammation and reset painful muscles, joints, nerves and tendons to their original blueprint of health. These techniques address pain, postural complaints, injuries and rebalancing of other systems.
- Counseling and Lifestyle Modification
- The mental/emotional state is considered to be as important as the physical one. Altering one’s lifestyle, addressing long-standing issues and developing stress reduction strategies can help the healing process. Not only do we believe that “You are what you eat”, but more significantly, “You are what eats you”.
- Detoxification
- A toxin is any substance that creates irritating and/or harmful effects in the body; stressing and undermining one’s biochemical health and organ function. Toxins can come from by-products of normal cell metabolism or from the outside environment e.g. pollution, drugs, pesticides, dyes, colourings, microbes, heavy metals, tobacco smoke and so on. Toxicity occurs when we take in more than we can utilize and eliminate. The body’s built in detoxification apparatus include the respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, skin and lymphatic systems. Multitudes of symptoms are suggestive of toxicity such as headaches, pains, bad breath, rashes, indigestion, frequent colds, mood changes and so on. Detoxification is the process of neutralizing or clearing toxins from the body.
Detoxification is a pillar of naturopathic medical practice. Modified diets and fasts, cleansing botanical and homeopathic medicines, and chelation therapy are a few of the modalities used at the clinic.
- Botanical Medicine
- Botanical medicine, also called herbal medicine, is the use of plants for their therapeutic or medicinal value and is the oldest form of health care known to man. Naturopathic doctors are regarded by many as the medical experts in botanical medicine as their training and clinical experience in this area is extensive. Western, Chinese and Ayurvedic formulations are all used at the clinic. Only standardized, professional quality, botanical medicines are prescribed with many available in oral, suppository, injectable and topical forms.
- Homeopathic Medicine
- Homeopathy is a medical system over 200 years old that utilizes microdoses of substances from the plant, mineral or animal kingdom to stimulate a person’s natural healing response.
The underlying principle in homeopathy in the “law of similars”. This law states that a substance that produces a set of symptoms in a healthy person can cure the same set of symptoms when given in a small, infinitesimal dose. This is the same principle of allergy desensitization or immunization.
There are thousands of homeopathically prepared medicines that have been tested, researched, and documented.
- Diet Therapy
- Diet therapy is the therapeutic use of foods and food plans to treat a medical condition and assist the body in achieving optimal health. Current research has demonstrated that various diets and eating habits may cause or benefit numerous illnesses. Our clinic provides individualized dietary programs prescribed to meet the specific needs of every patient. Some examples include; Food Allergy/Elimination, Food Combining, Blood Type, Vegetarian Based Diets, Low Saturated Fat Diets for high cholesterol and Multiple Sclerosis, Low Carbohydrate/Sugar Diets for Diabetes.
- Clinical Nutrition
- The therapeutic use of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids and food products is the core of clinical nutrition. Current research has linked many conditions with imbalances in certain nutrients. When these nutrients are supplemented or given in larger doses, many of these conditions improve or resolve. At the clinic an assessment of nutrient status is made and a prescription of professional quality supplements may be given.
In many cases injectables of preservative-free vitamins may be recommended when absorption is compromised or there is an evident need.
- Vitamin Injections
- Commonly, vitamin B12 and folic acid injections are prescribed to treat and prevent anemia, anxiety, low energy, poor memory, and for weight loss.
